Hello all, and welcome back to my little area of the internet!

If you've recently stumbled upon my site, or even if you're familiar with me already, I feel it's appropriate to give a quick overview of me as an artist, what I do, and what plans there may be for the year of 2025.

My name's Laura, and I have been an avid artist since before I can remember. I remember watching the classic 90's show Art Attack, and being obsessed with creating and art ever since I made my first ever frog bin (if you watched the show, you'll understand that reference)! It helps that I did have a bit of 'natural art talent' since I had a few family members that were good at it too, and I decided to continue it past school and college, specialising in acrylic paintings. Since 2010, I've been lucky enough to have my art exhibited in the UK and Australia, sell the odd painting or drawing nationally and internationally, and even be commissioned to do the odd project for independent creators. One painting of mine even found it's way to a home near Niagara Falls in Canada. What a trip!

As of 2025, I'm currently based in York, UK, where I went to University from 2009 to 2012, and I'm still making my acrylic paintings, as well as pen/watercolour illustrations and chalk art. I have lived in a few different places in the UK in my life before then, mainly Darlington and a small village called Gainford (the hometowns) and I was also lucky enough to do a couple years in Australia between 2015 and 2017. I then came back to York after that time, and have stayed put ever since. Oh, and I got married too during those two years, but that's a story for another time.

I did have a site before this one, but it was one that was primarily a blog that wasn't working for me anymore, and honestly, I had quite a bit of a break form my art in 2020 up until recently, with the only works I've done being for friends, family, my own personal interest project and the odd little commission for a local business. The reason for the break? The simple explanation is that I just had a lot of other things on.

Y'know how life gets; working a 9-5, adult responsibilities, looking after pets and the occasional session of Dungeons and Dragons (or is that just me?). So many distractions means there's so little time, but I've made the decision to make a bit more time for creating art again in 2025, in the hopes it'll lead to some commissions and other work. This was for a couple reasons, with the main one centring around whether it's worth me giving the art stuff a shot again. It's no surprise to many that artists have felt a bit deflated since AI has come into the picture, but I like to think that this would make people even more keen to have an authentic piece of art that feels real and organic. Also, I think I need to prove to myself that the passion to create art is still there, especially after everything that's happened to the world over the past 5 years. So yeah, there you go.

I will leave it there for now, as I've rambled on enough for the first post of 2025. However, I do plan on updating this blog on a bi-weekly basis to start with, and as things start to ramp up later in the year, this may change to weekly. They'll either be in the same style as this, covering stories on previous commissions or my personal passion project, or they may cover my plans and/or events planned for the year. So, if you're not subscribed, and would like to be, then please click wherever it is on the website that you can do that (I forget where that is, but it should be there).

Thanks everyone for your support, and for checking out my blog and new website! Until the next post, have a great day and speak soon! :)

I do love living in York, for the ability to take pictures like this on any given day!
