A Day at the Art Fair; Sales, Friendly Crafters and a Bearded Dragon

Hey everyone! I hope everyone has had a nice start to the week!

So, as most of you will know, Sunday was the day of the Little Fox Charity Craft Fair at the Leeds Corn Exchange. With it being my first ever art fair, I wasn't too sure what to expect so went in with no major expectations, and if I was able to sell at least one thing to someone who had never seen my art before, then I would have considered that to be a success. Well, I'm pleased to say that not only did I sell to 1 new customer, but I managed to secure a handful of sales, made some lovely connections with fellow artists and I even managed to secure interest from a local shop that is interested in having my work in store! I made back the money spent to rent the table, as well as some profit, and randomly, got to pet a bearded dragon called Odin (who was very friendly). So all in all, a very interesting and good event all around! I want to thank the fair organiser Shirralee for having me, and while their spaces are quite full up for now, it's likely I'll be reaching out to enquire about a table at other events in the Autumn. The other traders I chatted to did mention that it was quite a quiet Sunday, and that may have been because the weather couldn't figure itself out, but I genuinely think that my experience couldn't have gone any better as a first timer! There was a great atmosphere, filled with friendly people, and it was indoors, so we weren't having to worry about the rain. Oh, and of course Jake was there, being the wonderful, supportive husband he is, going out for coffee and minding my stall so wee breaks could be had. I have also found it very insightful, and have gone away with some great feedback and some things to work on before I go to my next event.

I thought it would be nice to include the links to some of the other traders who were there with me, as their work was great too, and it's always great to promote other independent makers, as we're all in the same boat these days, battling with AI and the big corps, so here you go: 'Quartz n All' - Crystals, Art and Tarot

'thebitsandbobby' - Creator of Adorable Things

SPB ART - Bosah Art and Printmaking

Blooming Edens - Florist for Weddings, Events and Retail

made.by.bish - Sewing and Crafts

NadiaBloomJewellery - Floral Jewellery made with clay and metal.

BabyBatzyCreations - Crochet Pattern Designer For more details on other sellers for that day, you can visit 'Little Fox Charity Craft Fairs' on Facebook by clicking here! They have a full list of the weekend's traders there.

That's all I'm going to mention about the fair for now, as I may reserve another post for 'a first timers guide to craft fairs', as that could be quite useful for any other arty types that come across my blog, and need a few tips. I'll just have to figure out how to write it first. In other news, I've taken my Etsy Store off 'holiday mode', so prints can be purchased again! Huzzah! There's even a new listing, which is for my A6 prints titled 'The Fungi Collective'. First shown at the art fair, it's a series of 7 prints inspired by the 'Myconid' race from Dungeons and Dragons. I'll include a picture here of the ones on offer, and there's the option to buy them separately, or the whole set for a cheaper price. Click on the picture below to check them all out!

And finally, since I've now done my first fair, I'll be looking into what other ones I can join for the rest of the year. Ideally, I'll be looking to reach out to local fairs in York and the surrounding areas, specifically themed around fantasy, D&D and witchcraft, but I'll still be keeping an eye on the future 'Little Fox' fairs, as well as other similar charity events in Yorkshire and the North East. Further updates to come once more dates confirmed.

Until then, and until the next post, stay supportive of independent artists!

Best wishes from Laura, aka ThatHungryArtGirl 🍄
